LANDS END TO JOHN-O-GROATS IN 24HRS
In celebration of their 60th anniversary, Highbridge Caravans has achieved a remarkable milestone, completing a non-stop journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats in under 24 hours, all in support of Children’s Hospice South West. The challenge not only marked six decades of success but also raised over £12,500 to help provide vital care for children and families across the region.
CHSW offers compassionate, specialist support to babies, children, and young people with life-limiting conditions. From short breaks and sibling support to end-of-life care, its services make an enormous difference to families in need. Remarkably, less than 11% of CHSW’s £14 million annual costs come from government funding, making community fundraising efforts like Highbridge’s challenge essential to its continued work.
THE JOURNEY
The Highbridge team, led by Jody, Devon’s Motorhome Sales Manager, alongside Ash, James, and Kevin, successfully completed the demanding 24-hour trek, showcasing the very best of British-built motorhomes, caravans, and campervans along the way. Their route included visits to Highbridge Caravans’ two retail sites, symbolically connecting the company’s proud history with its exciting future.
But this journey was about much more than endurance. The event raised over £12,500 for CHSW, more than doubling the team’s original fundraising target of £6,000, a cause that holds special meaning for the company, especially for Alex Davies, the mother of the company’s Directors, who, along with her friends from a Highbridge group, has raised £170,000 for this vital cause over the years.
Director Philip Davies said:
“Mission complete for the 24-hour Land’s End to John O’Groats Campervan Challenge, with only minutes to spare, saving the four-person team from an icy dip in Loch Ness! It was a huge success, and I would recommend to any British company that sells British products to take on a charity challenge like this for three key reasons.
Firstly, and most importantly, we raised vital funds for an amazing charity, Children’s Hospice South West, more than doubling our original target of £6,000. Secondly, we proudly showcased the excellence of British-built Campervans, visiting and promoting six of our UK manufacturers. Thirdly building a team spirit among our staff, not only the 4-person team doing the challenge, but also for the other 180 team members in the background giving them something really positive to cheer on. Our chosen Charity's slogan is 'help to raise a smile’ and the Campervan challenge certainly did that for all involved and the Charity.”
HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF
This year’s challenge also carried a touch of nostalgia. In 1981, Gordon, a cherished Highbridge veteran who has served the company for five decades, completed a similar non-stop journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats, towing a caravan behind his sister’s trusty Volvo. Gordon’s team raised around £680 for St John Ambulance, a significant achievement at the time.
Director Philip Davies adds:
“2025 is a landmark year for Highbridge Caravans, celebrating our 60th anniversary and this Campervan challenge was the perfect way to round it off on a high note.
A huge thank you to all the manufacturers who supported us along the way, our suppliers, the entire Highbridge Caravans team, and to everyone for their generous donations, or for sending messages of encouragement. Your support kept the team going mile after mile.“
Donations are still open until 31st December for anyone who would like to help us go even further.
