At Highbridge Caravan Centre Ltd, protecting the environment is more than a seasonal initiative; it is a core, long-standing commitment. Over the years, we have implemented a series of innovative solutions designed to reduce our operational footprint and champion sustainable practices within the leisure vehicle industry.

Our key environmental milestones:

💧𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: Our 100,000-litre rainwater tanks have been fully operational since being installed by local company Burnbridge Services , which both installs, services, and repairs rainwater tanks and sewage treatment plants. Since the rainwater harvesting system was installed, we have used 1,484m3 of rainwater and just 104m3 of fresh/potable water for cleaning caravans at the Highbridge Main site, impressing our valeters who find it superior to tap water for washing vehicles, as it leaves no chlorine marks. Put simply, this equates to 1,484,000 one-ltrs bottles of water. Rainwater is collected from our workshop's roof via a gutter and filter system, then stored in ground tanks for use. The rainwater tanks are also connected to our company toilets to help save on using tap water for each flush. The company now feels that we are better prepared for any potential hosepipe bans in the summer months, and we are also starting to see savings on our water bill.

  ☀️ 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆: Highbridge Caravans has installed solar panels on all of our buildings. Additionally, we have added extra insulation to previous roof light panels to help retain heat within our buildings during the winter and to prevent unwanted heat from entering during the summer months. Our buildings are painted in a lighter grey colour, which aids in better sun reflection compared to our previous dark brown coloured roofs that used to absorb more heat from the sun. The company is now more energy-efficient, thanks to our solar panels, which have already produced over 321,242 kWh since installed, across both branches (Somerset - 2021 and Devon - 2023). As a result, we are beginning to see savings on our electricity bill due to the solar panels.

🚗 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲-𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁: We are very pleased to announce a new fleet of customer curtesy cars, which are Toyota UK Yaris GR Hybrid models. Our customers can benefit from these lovely new cars which run on electric power up to 30mph and then switch over to unleaded fuel from 30mph onwards. We are hoping that these cars will help towards reducing our company’s overall carbon footprint. Keeping on the theme of Hybrid cars, our mechanics previously completed a 3-day course in Hybrid and Electric Vehicle IMI L2/L3 routine maintenance, repair, and replacement. As a company we want to be prepared for the future and although Hybrid and Electric motorhomes are someway in the distance, we would like to start training and planning now to make sure that we are ready for when they do finally come.

🌱 𝗘𝗰𝗼-𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗹𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀: we stock sustainable accessories, such as Vango Earth and Dometic ECO ranges, made from 100% recycled plastics.

♻️ 𝗭𝗲𝗿𝗼-𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: At Highbridge Caravans we are committed to minimising our environmental impact through recycling initiatives. For example we recycle all our IT equipment, printer toners, used vehicle tyres, vehicle batteries, small batteries, cardboard boxes, all types of metal, spray cans, bulbs, vehicle oil, paper and any unused brochures are always sent for recycling at the end of each year.
